I'm starting the New Year with a clean slate floors. Yesterday, after struggling with our textured laminate tiles that always appear dirty, Andy bought me a Shark on clearance for $20 at Target.
A couple of weeks ago I went on a Target retail therapy session on my lunch hour and came out with these golden beauties by Dwell for Target, thinking I was so original:
... definitely experiencing major buyer's remorse, but hopefully that's because I haven't held it in my arms yet.
I've been searching through piles of hankies at antique shops for months and thanks to an ebay search alert, I "won" this beauty:
But what if it was pretty great to begin with? Take these free ceiling tiles from Empire West, for example:
Joi introduced this ceiling tile project on her blog a few weeks ago, and it was something I had starred in Reader, wanted to research (are they really free?), but then forgot about. Then I visited Amanda last week; she showed me her awesome samples so I ordered my own that day.
Fast forward to one week later and I have my very own tiles. Free shipping too - how crazy is that?!

I'm hoping to frame them, like Joi, and hang them in the kitchen. Andy loved the concept of actually using them as ceiling tiles, but we agreed that doesn't fit with our current decor.

I ordered my linens for the reception today. The Country Club had a very limited selection of napkin colors included in the reception fee, but for an additional $1 you could chose from Royal Blue or Hunter Green. In order to get actual Navy napkins there would be an additional fee + $1 per napkin x 125 people = argh!
I need navy blue napkins, so what's a girl to do?

Have you hear of Yapta? It's a service that tracks flights you're interested in purchasing and alerts when the price has dropped below a threshold you set. You can also use on flights you've purchased so you'll know if you're entitled to a refund.
I setup flight "watches" for my MoH, my brother and us. I was able to email my MoH and let her know that the flight she was going take (but hadn't booked yet) had dropped by HALF. She was able to book her flight... and the next day the price had gone up by $300.
When a flight changes significantly you're sent an email, but you also get monthly reports for flights you have booked and continue to track. For example, this email I got yesterday:
I LOVE to see that kind of savings! That's money that can be spent on several dinners or dozens of tacky souvenirs!

First of all, thanks to everyone that shared their thoughts on the stainless steel vs. non-stick cookware debate. We decided to go with stainless steel so I researched "the best" (All-Clad) and "the best value" (Cuisinart Chefs Classic) and ended up selecting the Cuisinart which happens to be sold at Macy's... and it so happens that the 17-pc set is being downsized to 10-pc.
We went to Macy's to register for it and we were told since it's a discontinued set the in-store price is $30 and it can't be added to the registry. Yes, you read that right $30 from $670... Unfortunately, no Macy's stores actually have it so it has to be purchased online for $250. Which is a steel ;) if you ask me!
I forgot to mention that I went back to the Wilton tent sale.
Since it was 15 minutes before closing I didn't have time to do much damage, but I did buy 4 huge cake decorating tips - perfect for piping cupcakes - black and white frosting and two "perfect pan" cookie sheets.
All for under $20.
I want these as wedding shoes sooo badly...

On Friday I just about lost a hand at the wilton tent sale for these goodies...
parchment paper, professional spatula, Martha Stewart cupcake papers, baker's twine, 2 MS giant cupcake pans, cookie press, pure vanilla, buttercream frosting mix, a MS/Macy's 5-piece rectangular cake/muffin/mini muffin carrier and pans and a MS cupcake tower!
Here's the beginning of the line, it took about 40 minutes to actually get into the tent entrance at the opposite end... and I got there right when they opened!

The whole thing was terribly disorganized and although I did walk out with everything I wanted (and then some - two giant cupcake pans - don't ask) it wasn't more than 40%-50% off their regular items which comes out to the same as using a Michael's or JoAnn's coupon.
Def. not worth the wait or insanity, but at least I can say "I've done that" while gorging on a giant cupcake.
Remember when I won that Budior session? I was so excited an thrilled but right now it just feels like "one more 'thing.'" I know its free and it kills me to pass up that kind of bargain, but I wouldn't want to go alone and I know my schedule and my girlfriends' schedules don't have much time to take a weekend off for Galena...
So what do you think I should do?

Yesterday I finally purchased all of the groomsmen’s ties and pocket squares – even Graham’s – but Andy’s tie is much more elusive…

I keep getting my hopes up every time ebay alerts me to a “Vera Bradley tie Cambridge” but more often than not it’s the “tie tote” not a neck tie.
(You’re probably thinking, “Uh-doy, why don’t you search for ‘neck ties’?” but not every seller remembers the neck. Also, I refuse to pay retail for ANYTHING so I guess I’m making this harder than it needs to be, but that’s how I roll.)
I am indecisive... this is nothing new, but being indecisive when it comes to unbelievable bargains doesn't usually work well in my favor.
Many a-time the cute clearance sweater I saw online while at work is sold out by the time I get home (sorry, but I don't want to risk getting fired for shopping at work. although, I don't believe there's anything wrong with saving things in your shopping cart for after hours ;) ).
On Saturday Andy and I went shopping for living room furniture and wound up at the Crate and Barrel Outlet. FYI - nearly all of the furntiture there looks like it was assaulted with knives and chains, but it was worth looking since I found these:
Initially, I LOVED them, since they go with our wedding/house theme, doubled matted, high quality print, a they're real art, but at $125 each - Final Sale/Price I had to sleep on it.
Admist the wedding nightmares I kept thinking about these little guys and knew I had to have them! Like I said, I've been burned by waiting on last chance items so I knew if they were still there it was meant to be. The employees at C&B were so nice when I called and offered to keep an eye on the pieces for me since they aren't allowed to put anything on hold at the store. Andy and I got there a couple hours after the store opened only to see SOLD tags taped to the glass... Whew, apparently they made an exception and held them for me!
I got home feeling great about gown-up my purchase and Andy was happy because he found a new collectors Star Wars lego set. I went online to blog about my bargain and steal photos from the Crate & Barrel website... OMG! They retail for $598 for the pair! So yeah, I got an incredible deal... and apparently, they're hand painted. Now I just need to decide where to hang them, there's about 5 different spots where they'd work, but I just can't decide ;)
